Our Tartan

Originally, the band proudly wore kilts in the Hamilton Tartan, a pattern associated with Clan Hamilton, one of Scotland’s most influential Lowland families. The tartan features dark greens and blues with black and white accents, symbolising strength and tradition—qualities that matched the band’s early spirit.

As the band evolved, so did its identity. Seeking a fresh look that reflected its growing legacy and unique character, the Harpenden Pipe Band transitioned to the Ancient MacInnes Tartan. This tartan, linked to Clan MacInnes of the western Highlands, rusty reds, mossy greens, and muted blues—evoking the rugged beauty of Scotland’s coastal landscapes. The change marked a new chapter for the band, blending tradition with individuality.
